LEARNING SUPPORT
LSTs (Learning Support teachers) at LSRCSS offer a variety of academic supports rooted in inclusion, differentiated instruction, and universal design. LSTs coordinate services in the following ways:
- work with classroom teachers to address the diverse learning needs of students by gathering and sharing information, modelling strategies, co-teaching, and supporting the planning for and implementation of appropriate educational programming.
- liaison and advocate for students with parents/teachers/outside agencies.
- refer students to divisional clinicians and outside agencies: school psychology, social work, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, community mental health, AFM, etc.
- provide additional supports during assigned resource periods
ALTERNATIVE PROGRAMMING
In addition to learning support and counselling, LSRCSS offers a variety of alternative programming to support our diverse student needs.
Please note, referrals are required for the following alternative spaces.
FLExISPL
ISPL (individual self-paced learning) is an on-site classroom providing credit recovery. Students recover both academic and elective courses, with an emphasis on self-monitoring and self-paced learning. In addition to academics, students receive personalized credit plans outlining requirements for graduation.
FLEXOASIS
Oasis is an on-site classroom providing flexible instruction in a non-threatening environment. Students participate in both academic and elective courses, with an emphasis on mental health and well-being. In addition to academics, students participate in mindful meditation, life/career planning, and healthy relationships instruction.
LSEC
LSEC (Lord Selkirk Education Centre) is an off-site location providing flexible instruction in small-group settings. Students participate in both academic and work/community experience courses, with an emphasis on self-discipline and self-determination. On site, students have access to a school division social worker, counsellor, an Addictions Foundation of Manitoba (AFM) worker and a Community Mental Health worker.
